Meet Jess (She/Her) who found self acceptance and gained confidence in expressing her identity, thanks to a supportive queer community. Now working as a chiropractor and creating fashion content on TikTok, Jess expresses herself through her style and how she's accepted her true self.

Hi all! I'm Jess (she/her) and I'm from a small conservative lake town called Slidell in southeast Louisiana. I never felt truly comfortable expressing myself or my sexuality how I wanted to as a young person until I got out of my hometown and went to my graduate school. There, I found other queer people who gave me a safe space to explore myself. How I wanted to dress, who I wanted to date, how I wanted to present myself - it was all something I really didn't dive into until my mid-twenties! I like to think that if younger me saw how confident I was in expressing myself now, she'd be so proud. Since then, I've been working full-time as a Chiropractor and making some fashion content on Tiktok for fun. I love the mountains, would die for Taylor Swift, and have the biggest sweet tooth you could ever imagine.
When do you feel like your most authentic self?
I feel my most authentic self when I'm surrounded by people who truly know, love and accept me as I am. Or when I'm wearing an outfit I feel hot in! Expressing myself through my style has become so freeing.
Existing as a queer person in the US is becoming increasingly more difficult. How do you remain positive in today's climate?
Moving from my hometown to a city that's more accepting of queer people has been life changing for me. And COMMUNITY! Finding other queer friends has been an insanely huge positive in my life. Chosen family is a real thing and I couldn't be more thankful for it!
What is most important to you when shopping for clothing that makes you feel comfortable and confident?
When I shop for clothes it's most important to remember that there's no box I need to fit into. Clothes are just clothes - and there's no rules to styling them. If it works, it works! Life's too short to wear clothes that make you feel insecure.
What are your favorite products from Humankind?
The Anywhere Shorts have been a staple of mine the past few weeks! I also love the Tech Tank - so light and breathable! They've definitely turned into summer essentials for me.
